Took me until now, decades, to realize the irony that Christ, who was raised by St Joseph the Carpenter, and of course in the ancient world men often took the profession of their fathers--was a carpenter who was nailed to the wood of the Cross and left to die there. I was reminded of this by the painting of the baby Jesus playing in St Joseph's shop:
Also, makes you thing about the building metaphors Christ used, very fitting a builder should make these metaphors.
